our Financial model (R.A.I.N.)
At RespectEd Aotearoa, we believe that financial systems should nourish, not extract. That’s why we’ve designed a model we call R.A.I.N.
Rain falls from above, and its power lies in what it nurtures below. Similarly, our financial model channels resources from those with greater financial capacity to those most in need.
R.A.I.N. uses economic justice principles, where pricing is intentionally designed to redistribute resources to marginalised or under-resourced communities.
How it works:
-
We charge institutional and corporate clients fair, market-aligned rates. These organisations often hold the greatest financial capacity — and by purchasing our services, they help rain resources downward, where they are most needed.
-
The funds we receive from larger clients enable us to offer subsidised or fully-funded services for under-resourced groups — rangatahi Māori and Pacific young people, rangatahi whaikaha, grassroots collectives, and communities most impacted by harm.
-
This isn’t charity, it’s reparative flow. Just as rain supports long-term growth, our model helps build sustained capacity in communities to prevent sexual harm, challenge unhealthy social norms, and cultivate safer futures for everyone.
-
We believe that "redistributing wealth downward" is not only compassionate, it's economically sound. R.A.I.N. is our way of applying this principle in practice.
So when you work with RespectEd Aotearoa, you're not just buying a service. You're part of a restorative cycle.
what's R.A.I.N. stand for?
Why it matters
R.A.I.N. recognises that systemic oppressions such as sexism, racism, and colonisation have created wealth gaps, and the flow of resources in society reinforces these inequities. As a nonprofit social enterprise, R.A.I.N. helps us redistribute resources in the form of donations and free or subsidised services to communities that need them, but can't afford them.
